SeeBeyond Delivers Integrated Patient Record Solution With
    Business Process Management Capability

SeeBeyond (Nasdaq: SBYN), provider of the world's first fully integrated composite application network suite (SeeBeyond ICAN) for advanced integration and composite application solutions, today announced that Kalmar County Council has chosen to implement SeeBeyond as its integration and business process management platform to enable a single patient view across its healthcare services.
A local government organization situated on the east coast of Sweden, Kalmar County Council provides services to 12 communities comprising a total population of nearly 240,000. The Council first recognized the need for a new approach to managing medical information as it sought to establish closer cooperation among different healthcare providers and units. Without a unified view of patient records, effective progress in this area appeared impossible. From an IT perspective, the challenge was to deploy a solution that would support the organization's new "one patient, one record" vision. It was clear that the Council's existing healthcare systems were inadequate for this purpose, so a new strategy was developed.
"We needed an architecture to support the smooth flow of healthcare information both internally and externally. The ability to connect new systems quickly and easily would be an important feature of this new architecture," explained Peter Alvinsson, director of IT strategy at Kalmar County Council.
Kalmar County Council chose to implement the Cambio Cosmic healthcare information system from Stockholm-based Cambio Healthcare Systems. This solution, which has been widely implemented within Sweden, provides staff with access to medical data and a full range of administrative capabilities within a secure environment. Oracle 10i was chosen as the database system.
To provide the key integration capabilities, the Council chose SeeBeyond's eGate(TM) Integrator platform, with business process management functionality provided by its eInsight(TM) Business Process Manager solution. According to Mr. Alvinsson, the main factors contributing to the selection of SeeBeyond included the Company's strong track record in healthcare combined with its leading-edge technology.
"Access to up-to-date patient information is essential," said Ian Hill, vice president and general manager of EMEA for SeeBeyond. "With more than a decade of experience in the healthcare sector, SeeBeyond is providing proven integration solutions to rapidly meet the strategic I/T initiatives of the healthcare organizations across Europe - helping to streamline operations and placing the emphasis back on patient care."
Additionally, the Council chose CapGemini as its implementation partner, with SeeBeyond's Professional Services organization providing assistance and support in specific areas. The project began in Fall 2004 and it is anticipated that all healthcare units in the area, including private facilities, will be using the new system by 2007.
